Obituary for Brian Demerling

Brian Eldon Demerling of Clifford passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Sunday, January 19, 2020, in his 73rd year.

Brian was the husband of Myrtle Demerling, and father of Vicki Manto and her husband Roger, and Deborah Campbell and her husband Douglas, all of Clifford.

Grandfather of Samantha and Nathan Hill of Mount Forest, Nicole Manto and friend Kyle Lonsdale of Guelph, and Michael Manto of Clifford, and great-grandfather of Cassandra Hill.

Brother of Lorna Lints of Clifford, Dianne Hutchison of Port Elgin, and Janice and Neil Paulin of Guelph.

Predeceased by brothers Wayne Demerling, and Glenn Demerling and wife Jackie, brothers-in-law Howard Lints and Don Hutchison, and parents Eldon and Edna Demerling.

Brian worked at Demerling’s Garage for 42 years with his father, two brothers, nephew and great-nephew.

He was a member of the Clifford Fire Department for 32 years, serving as Deputy Chief for 9 years. Brian attended fires, accidents and meetings along side his father, Eldon who helped start the Clifford Fire Dept. in December, 1947, with the first meeting held the day after Brian was born.
Brian’s brother Wayne was a member for many years as well serving as Fire Chief. Now, the tradition continues with our grandson Michael joining the Dept. last year.

Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clifford on Friday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m.

Interment in Clifford Cemetery.
